CRUMB #38

OCTOBER 2025

THE WORD

Building Bridges

Building bridges across the chasm of differing opinions and belief. That’s the art of creating community. And bridges are constructed by poems and songs and stories that weave love and understanding into the fabric of our relationships. There is no need to denigrate another person because their beliefs or opinions are not the same as ours. Love is the power of the people. And THE OPEN MICROPHONE is one tool of the bridge builder.

So, the tasks is to build bridges in October at The Dangerous Kitchen in Takaka where glory abounds. And let’s build bridges at the monthly gathering of live poets and musicians at The Mussel Inn in Onekaka. And let’s build bridges at NgAna’s Gallery in Collingwood where a feast of food, poem and song awaits.

That’s it. Love to see you out and about at one of these bridge building gatherings….

Peace and love

An Uneasy Ripple

Building bridges across the deep chasm
Of differing opinions and belief
Traversing the bitter sea of sarcasm
Avoiding the wreckage of the blind reef

That’s the defining, creative art
Weaving love through song, story and poem
The making of one community heart
Strength folded into the fabric sown

Pitiful are we all to denigrate
Beliefs that cast an uneasy ripple
Across the chiselled words on our own slate
Love is the soul power of the people

Some drown in the poison of a cracked cup
Humanity betrayed, stirs and rises up

LIVE MIC ACTION

Moonshine and Feasting in November

It seems the mix of pot luck feasting and moonshine on the microphone is going to stay on the menu! Thanks for turning out and being part of this community-making gathering. We need one another in good times and in dark times.  Moonshine and Feasting is happening this Thursday, 6 November, so bring some food to share, something to drink, a poem or two and a song to  NgAng’s Gallery in Collingwood.

The POT LUCK FEAST will start at  6.00pm. Bring some food and drink and hang out together and remind ourselves just how lucky we are to be in such a gem of a community.

And then, starting around 7.30pm, there will be the very fabulous and very intimate Moonshine on the Microphone open mic session.

THE POEM AS STORY

HERE’S THE STORY – ROGER SANDERS

Story teller  ROGER SANDERS will be our guest at ACID ON THE MICROPHONE on Thursday 30 October.

Storytelling – an art form as old as the hills, fundamentally connecting us to our humanity! Roger Sanders has been a professional Storyteller for over 30 years, most recently performing at WOMAD 2024 and 25 and in Libraries around Aotearoa New Zealand.
Spinning tales from Europe and the Middle East, he honours the origins of traditional stories while embellishing them with his own unique character – using drama, humour and a wealth of live music and percussion.
He is excited to be performing again at the iconic Mussel Inn and looks forward to meeting any folk with hearts that are willing to listen!

Check out Roger’s website for more info here:
