CRUMB #19

3 OCTOBER 2023

THE WORD

A Revolution of Change

The bond of like-minded souls is indestructible. I just read that somewhere! The open microphone has always been the voice of the revolution. I just made that up!

Sometimes I sit back in amazement and awe at the gatherings we have created around the open microphone. From the Mussel Inn to the Dangerous Kitchen and the MAD Café, sometimes I get the sense that something is brewing. Like Dylan sings, “…something is happening here, but you don’t know what it is, do you, Mr Jones…” That’s the exciting thing – to be part of something that is as elusive as the wind and as powerful as the hurricane.

Become indestructible in October. Join the peaceful revolution behind the OPEN MICROPHONE; join the quiet revolution that is the GATHERED AUDIENCE. Open microphones this month are turning up the volume at our usual venues – love to see you at one of them! Gathering together is good for the soul; good for belief; good for bringing about change and good for feeling community!

Like-minded Resistance

In the dark room off the side street
they congregate, like-minds, together,
complete in the shadowy light.

Two or three by flickering candle
sup on wine and broken bread,
a simple revolution by this glory read.

This indestructible side-street bond,
forged by prayer and song and sun
is sustained by that of God in everyone.

In the gathering of these tight hearts,
in the power of this love connected,
the immoveable begins to move apart.

MOONSHINE on the MICROPHONE

Night-life under the moon in Collingwood can be full of surprises. You never can tell exactly what is going to go down; but then that is the appeal of this life that has been bestowed upon us!

So how about gearing up for a bit of magic at this Thursday’s MOONSHINE ON THE MICROPHONE in Collingwood. An open mic event unlike any other, intimate, personal and engaging.

Thursday 5th of October is the date when the poets and singers gather  at the MAD Cafe in Collingwood. The moon and the mountain are there, figuring large in all that is spoken, in all that is sung.

Come, gather down in the town for a good piece of rural night life, some good company with songs and poems to stir your soul.

ACID ON THE MICROPHONE

Folk singer, poet and international troubadour, ANDREW LOCKWOOD will be our gust at this months ACID ON THE MIRCOPHONE

So come on down and relax in the cool vibes of the Mussel Inn. Here you will find some rest for your soul and energy for tomorrow as the music and the spoken word  bounces off the walls and ceiling of  this little beauty of a venue.

As is the way things are done at this very fabulous and famously longest running open mic event, half the evening  will revolve around the open microphone.  And in the other half we will kick back and listen to the poems and songs of Andrew.

We will kick off around 7.30 pm with song and music from Alanjahjah and maybe Joy. They will be followed by open mic,  where poets, story tellers and musicians will take to the microphone to entertain and perform. Andrew will take to the stage after the break.

It would be absolutely tremendous to see you there!
